Objectives:

  • To represent and systematize the whole inventory of expressions for forms of address and politeness and of the specific contribution this form of expression makes to the constitution of linguistic politeness and combination techniques in modern Russian and Czech;

  • To create an extensive Russian language text corpus with a collection of text types which is as complete and representative as possible; to annotate this corpus and complement the Czech National Corpus by including text sorts excluded there;

  • To analyse the actual use of forms of expressing address and politeness in Russian and Czech by contrasting text corpora in both languages;

  • To extend the analysis of forms of address and politeness in Russian and Czech historically (16th-19th cent.);

  • To compare the Russian and Czech systems of politeness and finally arrive at a typological classification of the Slavonic languages, in comparison with each other and with other European and non-European languages.
