CoDII-BW.en documents the current state of research on English bound words and can be used as a flexible starting point for further research. CoDII-BW.en contains the English bound words which have been mentioned in the linguistic literature (currently about 75 entries). For each item we list references and propose classifications. In addition we give syntactic information about the item and the expression in which it occurs. For the syntactic annotation we follow the guidelines of the Syntactically Annotated Idioms Database. We also added examples from corpora and from the linguistic literature. CoDII-BW.en is also useful for further corpus-based studies on the occurrences of bound words, since we have tried to provide examples for queries for several publically available English corpora (at present these are: google,British National Corpus).
The data for the English collection has mainly been compiled by advanced undergraduate students of English at the University of Göttingen as part of a Hauptseminar Idioms (winter term 2004/05). While most of the collected data had been integrated by the time of the online publication (May 2006), we hope to complete the collection in the near future.
